Question 1

Do I really need progressive lenses, or should I stick with single-vision lenses?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your prescription and your daily visual needs. Single-vision lenses are designed to provide clear vision at one specific distance — usually distance or near vision. Progressive lenses provide multiple vision zones in one lens, allowing you to see clearly at distance, intermediate and near without changing glasses. If you regularly need to switch between looking far away, using a computer and reading, progressive lenses may offer greater convenience. Your optometrist or eye-care professional can recommend the appropriate lens based on your prescription, age and lifestyle.

Question 2

How long does it actually take to adjust to progressive lenses?

Accepted Answer

Most people need some time to become comfortable with progressive lenses. The adjustment period varies from person to person and may range from a few days to a couple of weeks. During the initial period, you may notice differences when moving your eyes or head between different viewing distances. Wearing your new glasses consistently can help your eyes and brain adapt to the different vision zones. Proper measurements, accurate fitting and a well-designed progressive lens can also play an important role in achieving comfortable vision.

Question 3

Progressive vs. Single-Vision Lenses: Which one is right for me?

Accepted Answer

There is no single answer for everyone. The right lens depends on your prescription, age, occupation, lifestyle and visual requirements. Single vision: designed for one viewing distance, simple and effective for specific vision needs, suitable when you primarily need distance or near correction. Progressive: distance, intermediate and near vision in one lens, no need to switch between multiple pairs of glasses, useful for people who frequently move between different viewing distances. A qualified optician or eye-care professional can help determine which option is appropriate for you.
